Young Turks Changes Label Name

The record label will now be known as Young

Young Turks, the British label that counts The xx, FKA twigs and Sampha among its roster, will now be known simply as Young.

In a statement, label founder Caius Pawson explained that he'd originally named the label after a Rod Stewart song in 2005, and had been "unaware of the deeper history of the term" at the time, with regards to the Young Turks being a group who carried out the Armenian Genocide." Pawson adds that he and the label "should have listened more carefully to other voices and acted more quickly."

Alongside the name change, the label is donating an undisclosed sum to the Armenian Institute in London. You can read the full statement here.
