FKA twigs has shared details of her second album, titled MAGDALENE.
Set for release via Young Turks, twigs leads production on the nine-track record which was made over the last three years between London, New York and Los Angeles. Above, you can watch a video for new single ‘holy terrain’, which features Future and guest production from Skrillex and Jack Antonoff.
A press release explains that the album was produced during a period of heartbreak for twigs, and also alongside surgery she underwent to remove six tumours from her uterus. "I never thought heartbreak could be so all-encompassing," she said in a statement. "I never thought that my body could stop working to the point that I couldn’t express myself physically in the ways that I have always loved and found so much solace.
"I have always practiced my way into being the best I could be, but I couldn’t do that this time, I was left with no option but to tear every process down. But the process of making this album has allowed me for the first time, and in the most real way, to find compassion when I have been at my most ungraceful, confused, and fractured. I stopped judging myself and at that moment found hope in ‘Magdalene’. To her I am forever grateful."
twigs previously revealed that Nicolas Jaar contributed production to MAGDALENE. The announcement of the record follows on from her return in April with ‘cellophane’, which was the first cut to be shared from MAGDALENE and closes the album.
Young Turks will release MAGDALENE on October 25, 2019.
