French music comes to life in London and Cambridge

One of our favourite pieces of content that we've started in 2011 is David McKenna's Rockfort column that looks at music from across the Channel. Rockfort celebrated French music long before it was on our pages (a href="http://www.rockfort.info/" target="out"> check the website here), and part of this took the form of regular gigs. We're pleased to announce that next week in Cambridge and London Rockfort are putting on Stranded Horse, Lisbonne and Rockfort DJs. On June 8th 2011 at The Portland Arms, Cambridge, it'll all kick off at 20h, and you can buy tickets here. Then on the following day at the Brixton Windmill, Stranded Horse will play with Lisbonne and Partial Gathering, and you can buy tickets here.

For information on Stranded Horse, read this edition of Rockfort

Lisbonne is a sweetly seductive vehicle for Marie Merlet from Monade – her band with Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab – which allows her dulcet tones and delicate, bossa nova-tinged sensibility to come to the fore through songs delivered in English, French and Portuguese. listen here. Partial Gathering consists of the avant-garde cello and electronics duo of composer, Ruaidhri Mannion, and cellist, Corentin Chassard. They formed in late 2009 and, after a first performance at London’s National Portrait Gallery, they began to further develop their fusion of electronic beats and volatile string textures. Listen here.
