New Platform For DJ Mixes, Wav.World, Launches
The Quietus , March 5th, 2024 19:52

The subscription-based platform aims to pay DJs for mixes, in addition to the producers whose music is featured in said mixes

A new online platform devoted to DJ mixes and artist interviews has launched, called wav.world.

The subscription-based platform plans to use membership fees to pay DJs for mixes. It will also use Aslice, a software tool which aims to help music producers get paid for plays of their music in clubs and mixes, so that the people who make the music that features in the DJs' mixes for the platform also get paid.

Each wav.world mix will be made available free to stream. However, people can choose to sign up for a paid membership in order to get exclusive access to artist interviews, tracklists for mixes and other benefits. For the first six months, all of wav.world's content will be available online for free. The first two mixes in the series come from Mor Elian and Rhyw, the DJs behind Berlin-based label Fever AM.

"We believe that mixes are a unique type of musical expression," wav.world said in a launch statement. "But mixes have become token content, requested for free then exchanged for promotion, pushed out into the world on a daily basis. Unless a mix is licensed, neither the DJ nor the artists whose music is played get paid."
