The Quietus' Albums Of The Year Playlist
Patrick Clarke , December 1st, 2022 09:27

Exclusively for tQ subscribers, here are our top 100 albums of the year, compiled for your listening pleasure as Spotify, Apply Music and TIDAL playlists

One of my duties at tQ that I enjoy the most is putting together the playlists at the end of every month that go out exclusively to our subscribers - a chance to take stock and look back at just how much brilliant music has been available for us to cover over the preceding few weeks, and mould the glorious sprawl of new records some kind of shape.

As we release our albums of the year chart for this year, we thought it apt to provide you with a bonus playlist, compiling one track each from all 100 albums that are on streaming services. It too was a joy to compile - a reminder that despite all the horror 2022 brought elsewhere, it was packed to the rafters with phenomenal music.

To access the playlists, you'll need to be a Quietus Low Culture or Sound & Vision tier subscriber here, and if you sign up within the next month, your first 30 days are completely free! As well as all our regular playlists (a separate November and December roundup is coming at the very end of the year) you'll also receive our monthly podcast with John Doran and Luke Turner, exclusive essays on the likes of The Larry Sanders Show, PJ Harvey, The Wyrd History of Accrington Stanley FC, Crusader Kings 3, why sword and sorcery films deserve your respect and much much more. If you want a taster, we've made Adelle Stripe's wonderful piece on Julian Cope's The Modern Antiquarian available for free.

That's not all - every month there's also our Organic Intelligence playlist, documenting a unique musical subculture from French dystopian sci-fi bangers to the balearic sound of Scandinavia, to post-Tito Yugoslavian pop. And, Sound & Vision tier members receive exclusive albums, EPs and singles every few weeks. Sign up now, and you'll get music from Sly & The Family Drone, Laura Cannell & Lori Goldsten and Waclaw Zimpel that you won't be able hear anywhere else.

For those of you who have signed up - thank you for helping keep The Quietus alive at a time where the realities of running an independent culture publication can be brutal. We love bringing you the kind of music you'll find in your playlists below, and we hope you'll love listening.
