Protests may lead to reprieve for station

BBC 6 Music may have been handed a lifeline after thousands of fans complained to the BBC about the planned closure of the station.

Earlier this year the BBC's strategic review threatened to close 6 Music, but according to The Times, the BBC Trust is now planning to review its future again.

Following overwhelming support form the general public to keep the station open - and with its audience growing by nearly 50 % and to one million listeners per week - Trust chairman Sir Michael Lyons will lay out a timetable for making his decision at tonight's Voice of the Listener and Viewer event.

The Times also claims that an unnamed 6 Music DJ has claimed: "The optimism is growing. There is a feeling that they will not just kill us straight off.
