Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2.

Miles Davis – In A Silent Way

I am going to cheat a little here and choose the Complete Sessions version. Why? ‘The Ghetto Walk’. Can’t believe it sat in the can for so long! Introspective, transcendent, and as funky as hell in all the right ways, it contains my favourite playing by Mr. Mclaughlin, Miles et al. Also the regular tracks of the album float like a waking vision of Fair Elfhame, if the ffayre-ffolke were also hip (in the old good meaning of kicking the gong around) mystical black panther motherfuckers.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Lord Spikeheart, Tom Ravenscroft
