LISTEN: Cosey Club Preview Playlist
Richard D Clouston , October 22nd, 2013 08:01

Richard Clouston gives the Quietus a playlist of the stern, sinister and sensual in preview of this weekend's Cosey Club Samhain special

As Halloween looms Richard D. Clouston prepares to welcome the darker season with his Cosey Club Samhain celebrations on Saturday 26th October. Here he provides a playlist to give a taster.

The Stranglers – 'Waltzinblack'

One of my favourite bands and have been since I was a little boy. This peculiar slice of genius is known to many as the theme to the BBC’s excellent ‘Floyd On Food’.

Conspiracy International – 'Hammer House'

Chris and Cosey’s CTI Conspiracy International material is absolutely incredible with a distinctly dark and intoxicating appeal. The record sleeve has a charming picture postcard view of Dennis Nilsen’s home, 23 Cranley Gardens.

Death in Vegas – 'Aisha' (Trevor Jackson Mix)

TJ’s mesmerizing ‘Nightclubbing’ mix of a classic track from the Contino Sessions.

Aphrohead – 'In The Dark We Live' (Dave Clarke’s 313 Mix)

This was a massive track when I was a teen clubbing in Newcastle. Still absolutely incredible 20 years after it was made.

Sex Gang Children – 'Dieche' (12” Mix)

The best xylophonegothdiscosex record of all time.

Cut Hands – 'Stabbers Conspiracy'

Heavy Juju from William Bennett

Mike Dearborn – 'Deviant Behaviour' (Mental Mix)

A proper nasty track. All of Dearborn’s stuff on Djax is great.

Suburban Knight – 'Echo Location' (Bat Trance Edit)

Top-drawer dark machine funk on UR. Got this in 1996 when I used to order direct from Submerge in Detroit, it was always a bit of an exciting mystery box that would appear in the post, which they kindly fleshed out with promos and stickers.

Douglas J. McCarthy – 'Death is King' (12” Mix)

The Man telling it how it is.

Art Deco (aka Bauhaus) – 'Spirit In The Sky'

Bought this about 15-years-ago from a now defunct record store in Camden. A brilliant version of the Norman Greenbaum classic. I love David J’s bass playing. I once met him a Kenneth Anger event in LA, he was queuing up to get a battered paperback of Hollywood Babylon signed, really nice guy.

Cosey Club takes place at the Waiting Room, Stoke Newington this Saturday, October 26th. The Facebook event page can be found Facebook event page here, Mr Clouston's website is here.
