Incident during concert in Swindon

Morrissey is in what has been described as a "stable" condition in hospital after collapsing during a concert on his current tour.

The former Smiths frontman had just completed what some eyewitnesses have said appeared to be a difficult rendition of 'This Charming Man' at the gig at the Oasis Centre when he fell to his knees, and had to be helped offstage by two of his band.

"The stage went dark and he was taken off the stage and then his band left the stage," audience member Mark Taylor told The Telegraph. "Everybody started booing, thinking 'here we go again'. He has a bit of a poor track record for cancelling his concerts. There was a wait of about 25 minutes before one of the stage crew came on and said Morrissey had left the building, and that he was seriously ill."

The Great Western Ambulance Service issued a statement saying "When they arrived they found a conscious patient who was not feeling well at all. They made an initial assessment and took him to the Great Western Hospital for further assessment."

A hospital spokesperson said "Morrissey has been admitted to the Great Western Hospital. He is being reviewed by the medical staff and his condition is stable."
