Laura Cannell Debuts As Hunteress For Boomkat Tape

'The Unshackling' sees Cannell taking up a new alias for 10 tracks of synth-pop

Laura Cannell has revealed a new alias, Hunteress.

The first release under the name is The Unshackling, a 10-track tape that marks the latest instalment in Boomkat Editions’ Documenting Sound series. Best known for her work with the recorder and violin, this latest release is, Cannell says, "nothing like my other music."

As per Boomkat’s release notes, The Unshackling sees Cannell exploring synth-pop and kosmische influences, and was recorded at her Suffolk home during the COVID-19 lockdown. You can hear clips via Boomkat, where the release can also be purchased as a tape or download.

Boomkat Editions launched the Documenting Sound series in May of this year as an outlet for music produced by artists in their homes or immediate surroundings during the COVID-19 lockdown. Releases thus far in the series have come from the likes of Regis & Ann Margaret Hogan, Sarah Davachi, Hieroglyphic Being, and Mark Leckey.

The Unshackling is out now on Boomkat Editions.
