Sarah Davachi shares an hour of new music for the first instalment in the run of releases

Boomkat Editions has launched a new series of releases called Documenting Sound, devoted to recordings made during recent months amid the coronavirus crisis.

The label says Documenting Sound will take in music from "an invited selection of artists from different disciplines and locations around the world." Sarah Davachi kicks off the series with Gathers, an hour of new music that was recorded during spring of this year at her home in Los Angeles.

"The series will hopefully provide a snapshot taken from the perspective of artists whose world we wanted to inhabit and encapsulate in physical form for posterity," a press release says. "The only proviso was that the material should be recorded at home or its surroundings, without too much pre-planning or concern for convention. We encouraged artists to experiment with field recordings, found sounds, improvisation, spoken word, songwriting, collage – whatever felt appropriate and real."

A number of releases in the series, which will be made available as tapes and downloads, are lined up for the coming weeks and months, according to the label.

Gathers is out now. You can hear clips via Boomkat.
