The Day the Earth Stood Still 1951
Why are all the classic Cold War movies being remade? Is it because Russia is stirring up trouble again? It's probably just because Hollywood would rather take old films out of their social context than attempt to grasp the zeitgeist of today. The original film implies that our war-like nature and inherent distrust of others will be our undoing: way scarier than the vague environmentalist bent of the remake.
