Mute Continues Can Live Series With ‘Live In Paris 1973’

Out next month, the recording was captured at the titular city's L'Olympia venue

Mute and Future Days, the new European arm of Spoon Records, have shared details of a new live album from Can, Live In Paris 1973.

Set for release next month, the performance was recorded at L’Olympia on May 12, 1973, and features the core lineup of Irmin Schmidt, Jaki Liebezeit, Michael Karoli and Holger Czukay, as well as vocalist and improviser Damo Suzuki.

Parts of the band’s 1972 album, Ege Bamyasi, feed into the performance, with the recording itself having been uncovered and pieced together from recordings within the Spoon Records vaults, as well as those sent in by fans. You can listen to an excerpt from the forthcoming release below.

Live In Paris 1973 marks the fourth instalment of the series of Can live albums, which launched in January 2021 with the release of Live In Stuttgart 1975. It was followed in December of that year by Live In Brighton 1975, and by Live In Cuxhaven 1976 in October 2022. The forthcoming live album marks the first in the series to feature vocals from Suzuki.

Mute / Future Days will release Live In Paris 1973 on February 23, 2024.
