Barcelona electronic music festival reveals talks and tech programme

Sónar Festival has a reputation for bringing some of Europe’s most innovative musicians to Barcelona, and that innovation is set to continue throughout the day with Sónar+D, a conference for creativity in the music industry.

Entering its third year Sonar+D 2015 will focus on the role of creators in the context of technological innovation, considering how digital platforms can be used to generate and develop new artistic content. The event comes with a series of major organisations presenting their wares, with masterclasses from the Google Creative Lab, the European Commission presenting on Science, Technology and the Arts, Barcelona’s Supercomputing Centre returning to Sónar+D for a real-time data project entitled ‘We Know What You Did Last Sónar’.

Musicians will not be left out from the innovation as Quietus favourite Holly Herndon will be in conversation with Kate Hutchinson. Richard Russell, producer and head of XL Recordings, is also addressing the conference. As for performers at the festival, organisers are promising “dialogue between music, audiovisual creation and technological aspiration” from the likes of Flying Lotus and The Chemical Brothers.

Sónar takes place between 18-20 June in the Catalan capital. The 11th edition of the festival will see performances from over 100 artists, including fka Twigs, Squarepusher, Arca & Jesse Kanda, Jamie xx, Autechre and Duran Duran. For more information go here.
