Black Midi Detail Second Album, ‘Cavalcade’

The follow-up to 'Schlagenheim' is out in May

black midi have announced their second album, Cavalcade.

Due out in May, early parts of the eight-track Cavalcade began to form immediately after the 2019 release of the band’s first album, Schlagenheim. Opting for a more considered approach to writing material for the album in comparison to the jam-based sessions for its predecessor, part of Cavalcade was written by individual members at home and brought to the table in rehearsal. It sees the band bring on board saxophonist Kaidi Akinnibi and keyboard player Seth Evans, while original member Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin takes time away from the group to focus on his mental health.

Alongside the album’s announcement, the band have shared lead track ‘John L’, which features Jerskin Fendrix on violin. The song will be released on 12" vinyl on April 9, with a B-side called ‘Despair’, which does not feature on Cavalcade. You can watch a video for ‘John L’ above.

Rough Trade will release Cavalcade on May 28, 2021.
