YouTube and Universal Music Group have teamed up to remaster over 1,000 popular music videos to high definition.
Many of the music videos set to get the remaster treatment date back to pre-2000, and YouTube and UMG have been working with the artists and directors responsible for the videos to ensure that they stay as true to the original versions as possible.
Amongst the videos getting the remaster treatment are Beastie Boys ‘Sabotage’ (you can watch the new version above), Billy Joel’s ‘White Wedding’ and Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’, as The New York Times reports. When uploaded, the new versions of the videos will replace the originals but will maintain the original URL and play count.
YouTube and UMG aim to have the first batch of upgrades completed by 2020.
