On Saturday 9th June, the De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill-On-Sea will be hosting an event entitled We Can Elude Control, a day of experimental sounds and electronic music to coincide with the closing weekend of the Pavilion’s Cerith Wyn Evans exhibition. Curated by Emptyset’s Paul Purgas – who has also curated sound projects in Bristol and London – the event brings is set to feature performances by a number of excellent artists. Oh, and best of all, it’s free.
The event will be headlined by none other than former Throbbing Gristle duo Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti. As well as releasing Transverse – a collaborative live album with Nik Colk Void of Factory Floor under the name Carter Tutti Void – the duo have been hard at work on finishing the final Throbbing Gristle album, an album length interpretation of Nico’s Desertshore. Having already performed selections from it live at Newcastle’s AV Festival earlier this year – read Luke Turner’s review of the event here – at We Can Elude Control they will be performing a live remix of the album, which is yet to see release. Expect this to be very good indeed. Playing in addition will be Russell Haswell, and Napalm Death vocalist Nicholas Bullen.
Throughout the afternoon a series of performances will take place in Wyn Evans’ S=U=P=E=R=S=T=R=U=C=T=R=E installation, by Bristolian analogue anarchist Ekoplekz, Helm and Barcelona sound art collective EVOL.
And on the top floor will be performances by Shelley Parker, which will incorporate live audio beamed across from Beachy Head, with collaborations coming from Robert Curgenven and Lorrie Jayne Evans.
Sounds like it’s set to be quite a day for an impressively low (erm, non-existent) price tag. Read more here.
