Unsound has revealed the first wave of acts playing its 20th edition later this year.
Taking place under the theme of Bubbles, this year’s event will feature live sets from the likes of Loraine James, Eris Drew, Caroline Polachek, 700 Bliss, Phew, Lucrecia Dalt, Blackhaine and Marina Herlop. The festival will also feature a number of world exclusive collaborative performances and premieres, including the debut of the band Osmium, consisting of Hildur Guðnadóttir, Sam Slater and Emptyset’s James Ginzburg, who will perform on specially built instruments alongside vocalist Rully Shabara, of Senyawa.
Resina and Aho Ssan, who first met while working together on Unsound’s Weavings project amid the COVID-19 pandemic, will link-up to present a new Unsound-curated project called Ego Death, while Polish artist Wojciech Rusin will collaborate with Spółdzielnia Muzyczna to present Vitriolum, which will feature 3D-printed wind instruments designed especially for the performance.
Rusin will also be involved in this year’s daytime discourse programme, discussing "speculative design practices, faux musical traditions and the experience of the Eastern European immigrant." Emptyset’s Paul Purgas will also take part with a talk and listening session delving into the electronic music studio at The National Institute of Design in Western India in the 1960s.
Unsound will take place from October 9 to 16, 2022. Find more information here.
