Unsound Details Release Of Nicolás Jaar’s ‘Weavings’ Project

The improvisation-based release sees Jaar collaborate with the likes of Angel Bat Dawid, Laraaji and more

Unsound has shared details of a new release from Nicolás Jaar and an extensive set of collaborators, Weavings.

Originally commissioned and produced as part of Unsound’s 2020 virtual festival, Weavings is an improvisation-based musical project that sees Jaar work alongside the likes of Angel Bat Dawid, Laraaji, Ellen Fullman, Juliana Huxtable, Resina, Ka Baird, and Senyawa’s Wukir Suryadi and Rully Shabara, among others.

All of the music featured on the release was recorded in one sitting without a break on November 30, 2020, with performers joining from around the world using Zoom and a high resolution audio plug-in. Jaar had less than 24 hours to mix the work into a whole, then streamed it live from his own computer as the first performance of the 2020 virtual festival. Unsound’s release of the project sees it released in unaltered form, save for subsequent mastering.

All profits from the release of Weavings will be split equally between the participating artists, while a companion album, featuring a second instalment of the project from 2021’s in-person edition of Unsound, will be released later this year.

Unsound / Other People will release Weavings on February 25, 2022.
