Unsound Announces 2017 Theme

Festival returns this October with another new theme

Unsound Festival have announced their theme for this year’s edition taking place from October 8-15 in Kraków.

Veering away from themes that weighed heavily on ideas of instability such as Horror, Future Shock, Interference and The End, the theme for this year, the festival’s 15th outing, will be Flower Power.

Expanding the idea behind this year’s theme, Unsound explained that Flower Power "is an exploration of counter-culture forged in opposition to dominant forces. It is in part a nod to the 50th anniversary of 1967 and the Summer of Love – a period rich with aspiration and riddled with contradictions – as well as dark, chaotic cross-currents of that era that now seem to crash over us again."

This year’s theme is also built around the notion of ecological vulnerability and resourceful regeneration. Throughout the festival’s proceedings the consideration of biology and ecology that preceded human life and what will follow after we are gone will be considered: "It is a response to the feeling of living in the shadow of the Doomsday Clock ticking ever more forcefully forward."

This year’s Unsound will also see the continuation of last year’s theme of Dislocation with an ongoing project hosting events in various cities including Minsk in Belarus, Kazan in Russia and L’viv in Ukraine. For full details of the Unsound Dislocation project click here .
