Thurston Moore: Burroughs Event

Red Gallery hosting celebration of Beat writer's centennial

With 2014 marking one hundred years since the birth of William S. Burroughs, Ecstatic Peace Library, the press founded by Thurston Moore and visual book editor Eva Prinz, are hosting an exhibition of ephemera and photographs from the Nova Convention, the 1978 retrospective of Burroughs’ work held in New York. The event featured appearances from Allen Ginsberg, Frank Zappa, Suicide, Philip Glass, Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, Timothy Leary and others, and will also be celebrated with a special publication.

The exhibition opens next Tuesday, July 1, and runs until July 13. Head here for full details, and read the Quietus’ own Burroughs commemoration: Darran Anderson looking back over the writer’s body of work, here, and Chal Ravens reflecting on his musical legacy, here.
