Support Act Initiative To Help Refugee Charities

New initiative launched requiring those with guestlist at some events to make a charitable donation to organisations supporting refugees

Look anywhere in the world at the moment, and it seems it’s a not-stop cascade of doom, gloom and things going from bad to worse. So it’s heartening to hear about positive action, of kind-hearted, determined individuals doing something other than venting into the dark abyss of Twitter to make the world a better place – for us, for them and for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Step forward then, the people behind Support Act, a brilliant new initiative designed to bring about real change by a cunningly simple process. Based on an initiative from Germany, the concept is simple; guest listers at live music events across London are being asked to donate £1 for entry, money which then goes directly to Refugee Action and Road To Freedom. The organisation has already garnered a huge amount of support from venues, promoters and record labels, and a number of influential voices have also praised the initiative.

Fear Of The Left and Mclusky frontman Andrew Falkous has voiced his approval – “This is self-evidently a good idea, like carrot cake. Besides, what is £1 in London anyway – quarter of a pint of Tuborg?”, as has BBC Introducing’s Abbie McCarthy: “I first read about Support Act on their Facebook page and I immediately wanted to be involved. What a wonderful idea and for such a worthy cause.” The whole thing kicks off officially this Thursday, with a special night at Kamio in Shoreditch; just the tonic for those saddened by the state the country currently finds itself in.

Support Act will be launched at Kamio in Shoreditch with Dagny and Dream Wife playing live. All tickets are £1
