Sunn O))) are set to play a one-off ‘Shoshin (初心) Duo’ live show at London’s fabric next month.
Scheduled for June 22, the show will see core Sunn O))) members Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson taking to the stage only, performing without guests, vocals or keyboards. Kali Malone will provide support on the night, performing a live electronics set. The show is taking place to coincide with the launch of a new exhibition by one of the group’s long-time supports, Edwin Pouncey, AKA Savage Pencil, who created the artwork for Sunn O)))’s very first live tour and has been at all of the group’s London shows since. He was also present at both of the group’s BBC Sessions performances, playing tambura on the 2004 Peel Session, and has created more than 20 drawings for the band.
Pouncey’s exhibition, Demons For Sunn O))), is a retrospective of work he has done in collaboration with, or under the influence of, Sunn O))). All of the work featured was created between 2003 and 2021, and includes drawings, prints, posters and various tour ephemera. It will take place at London’s Atlantis Bookshop, and run from June 1 to July 2.
Last year, Sunn O))) released the live album Metta, Benevolence – BBC 6Music : Live On The Invitation Of Mary Anne Hobbs, featuring recordings from the group’s October 2019 radio session for Mary Anne Hobbs’ show on BBC Radio 6 Music.
