Sufjan Stevens is to release a new five-volume album, Convocations.
Due out in full next month, the project will be introduced with the release of the first volume, Meditations, on Thursday (April 8). Above, you can listen to a new track from it, ‘Meditation V’.
Stevens wrote and recorded the project as an homage to his biological father, who died in September 2020, two days after Stevens released his last album, The Ascension. Each volume is meant to reflect a different stage of mourning, with Meditations accompanied by Lamentations, Revelations, Celebrations and Incantations.
Asthmatic Kitty will release Convocations on May 6, 2021.
