This month sees Rabih Beaini relaunch his Morphine Records label following two years of inactivity with four new albums set for release across October and November.
The second of those forthcoming albums comes from Austrian composer and sound artist. Titled Quellgeister #3: Bussd, it was recorded entirely on an abandoned church organ. Above, you can hear the first taste of the record, in the form of a track called ‘Elegie’.
The accompanying video captures the different steps in Fraunberger’s recording process in the church, with this album marking the third instalment in a series which has seen him putting to use derelict pipe-organs that have been found in deserted Transylvanian fortress churches.
"The project is conceptually a cooperation between the uncanny and myself," explains Fraunberger. "My intent is to give voice to a signifier of a change that was not supposed to be represented ever again."
Quellgeister #3: Bussd was performed and recorded between 2016 and 2018, in the Romanian village of Bussd where the pipe-organ was discovered. Morphine Records will release the seven-track album on October 21.
Kicking off the run of upcoming releases on Morphine is an album from Upperground Orchestra, the collective of artists that includes Rabih Beaini, Alvise Seggi, Tommaso Cappellato and Piero Bittolo Bon. Titled Euganea, the new album was recorded by the group in 2016 and will be released this Monday (October 7).
