A new vinyl pressing plant has opened in Seoul, South Korea, making it the country’s first active plant since Seorabul Record Company closed down in 2004.
As The Korea Times reports, the Machang Music & Pictures plant has been in development for three years, and is now manufacturing 1,000 records a day. Its production is split between new releases and reissues of prized jazz and classical albums.
The plant is said to be looking to extend its production beyond those new releases and reissues in the future in order to attract overseas customers with the plant’s opening coming just a few weeks after Sony announced it would return to manufacturing vinyl, opening a pressing plant in Japan almost three decades after originally abandoning the format for the then-burgeoning CD market.
