Vaccine passports will soon be a requirement for entry to nightclubs and other venues hosting large-scale music events in Scotland, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced.
Sturgeon says that the introduction of vaccine passports as a requirement for entry to some spaces is necessary as a result of an increase in cases of COVID-19, following the recent reopening of clubs and live music venues. Scotland recently recorded its highest number of daily COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
The measure will apply to some nightclubs, gig venues and festivals (both indoors and outdoors), but it will first need to be approved by the Scottish parliament. Under the new rules, those over the age of 18 must be fully vaccinated in order to attend such spaces.
For unseated indoor events, the ruling will apply to those with a capacity of more than 500, while that number rises to a capacity of more than 4,000 for unseated outdoor events. No date has yet been set for the introduction of the measure.
Sturgeon’s announcement follows on from the UK government’s recent confirmation that it will press ahead with plans to introduce vaccine passports as a requirement for entry to clubs and other venues in England.
