Ali ‘Perc’ Wells has announced the launch of two new sublabels of his Perc Trax label, which over the past few years has released some of the Quietus’ favourite harsh, industrial-edged techno. The two new imprints – Perc Trax Ltd. and another, as yet unnamed sublabel – will turn the label’s focus towards a wider array of disciplines. The former will be based around collaborations, reissues and "one-off special projects" – with a distinct focus on the dancefloor – and the latter will be based around noise, experimental and improvised music. Intriguingly, it promises that the latter’s first release will be a ‘once in a lifetime collaboration between boss man Perc and one of his all-time heroes’.
But in the meantime, Perc Trax Ltd. is launching with a reissue of Matt Whitehead’s ‘A Is For Acid’. It was originally released as part of a compilation before developing into something of a low-key hit in London techno circles, being played by the likes of Perc himself, Blawan and Truss. This reissue will pair the original with a pair of storming remixes from Perc and Truss’ extremely unhinged MPIA3 project. You can listen to snippets of all three via the embed below.
"’I wanted a label for special one off projects, collaborations & reissues and also projects that shamelessly aim directly for the dancefloor whilst avoiding the big room clichés that turn me off so much modern techno," says Perc of the launch of the new label. "People appreciate that the main Perc Trax label will occasionally throw them a curveball, whether it is an ambient or noise track or a producer playing with broken beats and off-kilter rhythms, and I love the label’s fans for that. Perc Trax Ltd aims to hold people’s attention and interest whilst providing releases where every track is one that DJs can reach for and know it will instantly work on the dancefloor.
"’A Is For Acid’ is the perfect first release," he continues. "A sleeper hit in London gaining early support from Blawan and Truss, it clearly deserved a full release of its own after initially being the B2 on a 4-track various artists EP. Across the three mixes the EP is a perfect snapshot of London techno right now.’"
