Mike Patton has recorded a new album, entitled Music From The Film And Inspired By The Book The Solitude Of Prime Numbers (La Solitudine Dei Numeri Primi). As its name suggests, it was inspired by his reading Paolo Giordano’s novel and contributing music to the film of the same name.
It’s something of a departure from the often jarring intensity of much of his music – there’s a soft romanticism to the record that’s quite unusual to hear from Patton. In the label’s words: "The Solitude of Prime Numbers collection boasts a cinematic feel that allows instruments an individual voice, emphasizes isolated notes and subtly transitions from piece to piece, acutely capturing the introspective and reflective feel of the novel. The album’s intricate packaging further conveys this dramatic and minimalistic approach, with a multi-panel digipak featuring a leaf cut out, embossed with a locking mechanism."
The album is due for release through Patton’s Ipecac label on November 7th.
