tQ Presents: Grumbling Fur & Heterotic

Magickal duo to headline The Quietus' Cafe Oto show in December - with just-announced support from Heterotic

We’re delighted to announce that we’ll be bringing our fifth year to a close with a very special gig, hosting Grumbling Fur at Cafe OTO on Monday 16 December. The album they released earlier this year, Glynnaestra, a magnificent end-result of the English wyrd refracted through glorious pop sensibilities, has been a near-permanent resident of the tQ office stereo; if you haven’t heard it yet, stream it below, with an introduction from our review. Factor in that their live shows are wending, entrancing events, occasionally leavened with charming to-and-fros between the duo’s Alexander Tucker and Daniel O’Sullivan, and we couldn’t encourage your attendance any further.

UPDATE: In support we’re pleased to be hosting Heterotic, the husband-and-wife duo of Lara Rix-Martin and Mike Paradinas (aka head honcho of one of the UK’s more consistently boundary-stretching labels Planet Mu). Their album Love & Devotion (which featured guest appearances from Nick Talbot, aka Gravenhurst) has been a Quietus favourite since it was released near the beginning of this year, so they’re an appropriate act to accompany Grumbling Fur for the evening. "Though it plays like a loving, if fraught, homage to the music of the 80s and 90s, Love and Devotion always errs on the side of familiarity rather than retro-reverence," wrote Maya Kalev in our review at the beginning of the year. "Those aesthetic and lyrical allusions to the past are also vehicles for a moral, subtly delivered: that in order for relationships to succeed, life has to be lived in the present."

Tickets for the night can be purchased on Wegottickets here and via Songkick here. See you there.
