WATCH: Gary Numan Interview – Part 4

Numan talks about his relationship with Asperger's syndrome and music in the fourth video from last month's Hospital Club interview

Following our review of his new album Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind) earlier, here’s the fourth instalment of our Gary Numan video interview series.

Here, Numan tells Simon Price about the ideas behind the cover art of the record, how melody remains his greatest strength and first meeting his producer Ade Fenton ("That’s when I first became aware of him, as a lookalike"). He also reflects on his experiences with Asperger syndrome – while Numan has never been diagnosed as having the disorder, he believes he has traits of it, which have been beneficial to making music, saying: "I actually see it as a positive advantage. I have a degree of focus and obsession which is ridiculous at times and I think that’s a very useful thing to have if you want to be in a band for a long time."
