LISTEN: Floating Points Shares ‘Anasickmodular’

Part of the track came about from an improvisational set he played at Dekmantel festival in 2017

Floating Points has released a new track called ‘Anasickmodular’. You can hear it above.

It’s the third track to be unveiled from the producer’s, real name Sam Shepherd, upcoming studio album, Crush, following on from ‘LesAlpx’ and ‘Last Bloom’.

"’Anasickmodular’ was a working title that stuck," Shepherd says of the new track. "The main pad audio and vocals are from a live improvisation at Dekmantel festival in 2017.

"At some point on the tour we were in Sydney and Anna (who is half of the Hamill Industries team responsible for the live laser/bubble oscilloscope projections) was ill so, on an off day, I started a new project bringing the modular out of its box, hence the title. The second half of the track was recorded live in situ and is a lot of fun to play live! "

Crush, Shepherd’s second studio album, came together across five weeks, inspired by his solo live tour dates opening for The xx in the US in 2017. Those sets saw Shepherd improvise on stage with a Buchla synthesiser. Expecting that the music he’d play would "be really melodic and slow-building," he says that it ended up being "some of the most obtuse and aggressive music [he’s] ever made".

Ninja Tune will release Crush on October 18. He will follow the album’s release with a series of live shows, including an appearance at London’s Printworks on November 21.
