LISTEN: EMA – Satellites

First spin of track from new album, The Future's Void, out next year

Excitingly, EMA, aka former Gowns vocalist Erika M. Anderson, has announced that she’s releasing her second album The Future’s Void early next year, out via her new label City Slang in Europe and Matador for the rest of the world. Excellent news, considering her debut, 2011’s Past Life Martyred Saints, being one of our favourites of that year. The press release tells us the record will draw on "metaphysical themes, of struggling to understand where we fit in the digital age and where we are all headed", and, fittingly, from the sounds of ‘Satellites’, which we’re premiering above, it seems Anderson is meshing in some electronics into her noise-flecked pop, great hulking slabs of feedback and distortion working up to a string-gilded crescendo.
