London-based pianist Duval Timothy has shared details of a new album, Meeting With A Judas Tree.
Spanning six tracks, the album was produced between 2019 and 2022 at various studios in London, Freetown and the Italian city of Spoleto. Timothy made use of a number of different pianos to record the tracks, as well as double bass, electric guitar, synths Juno-G and Moog Grandmother, and field recordings. Producers Yu Su, FAUZIA and Lamin Fofana all appear as featured artists. You can listen to the album’s lead cut, ‘Mutate’, above.
In a statement, Timothy said: "While making this record, I wanted to explore what the natural environment means personally. I went on many trips into nature to engage with plant life and natural materials.
"These included everyday strolls around South London, walks with my mum in the hills surrounding Bath, hikes through Freetown, the hills of Spoleto, up line in Ghana and nature sanctuaries in Sierra Leone. I found incredible examples of nature in all of these contexts, which I felt personally close."
Meeting With A Judas Tree follows on from Duval Timothy’s 2021 collaborative album with Rosie Lowe, Son, and 2020 solo LP Help.
Carrying Colour will release Meeting With A Judas Tree on November 11, 2022.
