As we’ve previously reported, Bring To Light, the three-day festival being put on by Capsule, the Bimingham-based organisers of Supersonic, one of tQ’s favourite events, is gearing up for its first edition, which kicks off at the end of the month from October 25-27.
The weekender is part of the vast Discovery Season that Capsule are running to inaugurate the brand new Library of Birmingham, which includes installations, creative residences within The Pavilion, a structure "place-maker" artist Morag Myerscough has built within the library, a "Discovery Trail" of artworks to introduce people to the building and a host of events for children; have a look at the full Discovery programme here.
Bring To Light will be making use of the library as a venue on the festival’s Saturday and Sunday, which will be headlined by Josephine Foster and Clipping respectively. We’ve heard more from Foster’s new album I’m A Dreamer, a set of newly-written tracks revelling in early country instrumentation, since first posting about BTL; have a listen to album opener ‘Sugarpie I’m Not The Same’ below:
Los Angeles’ Clipping, meanwhile, produce a furious onslaught of hip hop and noise, drawing on breezeblock sonics from William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes and fronted by Daveed Diggs – stream their album midcity from earlier this year below:
Frequent visitors of the site will know that we’ve been major fans of Luftbobler, the first output from the musical experimentation of visual artist Dinos Chapman (that’s the man, dressed as a rabbit, up at the top), who’ll be topping the bill at the Rainbow Warehouse in Digbeth on Friday night . So much so, in fact, that we included it in our list of favourite albums of the year so far; have a listen to ‘So it goes’ from the album below and read Chapman’s own 13 favourite albums here:
In addition, the bill also includes Shangaan Electro, South African DJ Nozinja’s manic, 189 BPM dance group, who’ll also be giving workshops, as tried out by the Quietus – read up on how we fared here – and excellent Newcastle singer-songwriter Richard Dawson, alongside Masaki Batoh, Robedoor, Zomes, High Wolf, Kogumaza, Sleaford Mods, Sarah Angliss, Delia Darlings, Laurence Hunt, Hordes and Evil Blizzard.
Stay tuned to the site for a more in-depth guide to the weekender and full-length interview with Foster, but in the meantime get hold of tickets, both weekend and day, over at Capsule’s website.
