Black Midi Share New Track, ‘Slow’

It's the second song to be unveiled from the band's forthcoming second album

black midi have released a new song and accompanying video, ‘Slow’.

The track is lifted from the band’s forthcoming second album, Cavalcade, which was announced last month alongside lead track ‘John L’. The music for ‘Slow’ was written just before the band’s February 2020 UK tour, while the lyrics were finalised when they recorded demos in June 2020. It’s one of two songs on the new album to be fronted by bassist Cameron Picton. You can watch the video for the track above.

“The ‘Slow’ video was made to fit the oscillating dynamics of the song, going from calm to chaos over and over again," says director and animator Gustaf Holtenäs. "The video tells the story of a character who creates AI-generated worlds. To emphasise this, I let real AIs generate a lot of the backgrounds in these worlds. So they are partly AI-generated, but It isn’t long before an AI could create the whole deal and create endless iterations of fantasy worlds. It can already create a random beautiful landscape painting in one second."

Rough Trade will release Cavalcade on May 28, 2021.
