Beastie Boys Musical Planned

Show will explore the history of hip-hop through personal story of the trio

In somewhat unexpected news, a Beastie Boys musical is set to open in London next month.

The show, naturally titled Licensed to Ill will run at Camden People’s Theatre, as CMU reports. The musical will follow Mike D, Ad-Rock and MCA through the history of hip-hop as told through their own personal history. According to the blurb, the musical, which has been created by artistic director Simon Maeder and Adam El Hagar alongside musical comedy dups Abandonman and Rubberbandits, offers “a new style of theatre that mixes rapping, DJing, physical comedy and even puppetry to create the eclectic, hilarious style that a show about the Beasties deserves.” It remains to be seen whether that’s an accurate representation of the musical but you can find out when it opens next month.
