11. Blues Volumes I & II
There were two albums, Blues Volume I and Blues Volume II and they came out on the Pye R&B label, which was in fact Chess Records. It was a fantastic selection of all the great Chess artists, you know, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Howlin’ Wolf, all of those people. They’re compilations but very influential and certainly influential on me. A lot of these guys like Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter, they didn’t make albums, they released singles. Making albums, I think it really started with Sergeant Pepper, before that if you had a hit record they’d put out an LP and it would be the hit record and the b-side and the follow-up and a few other songs. But loads of people started making albums after Sergeant Pepper.
