Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

This was the first album I ever wanted to own. I have no idea what attracted it to me initially. I’ve never liked ‘The Power Of Love’, so I think it was ‘Stuck With You’ that drew me in or maybe I just thought they all looked cool on the front cover. I was eleven when the album came out, and when I went back to the album recently I realised that most of it deals with quite middle-aged concepts. Long-lasting marriages, facing retirement and your kids moving out of home, so how that resonated with the eleven-year-old me is still a mystery. That said, I played it over and over again incessantly and loved it. Even now it still brings back very intense feelings and memories of being in my bedroom in the tiny Hertfordshire village of Westmill, continuously flipping the tape over to hear it again and again.
