Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. Pete SwansonPunk Authority

Pete is someone I admire as much as a person as he is a musician. He refuses to stand still, and even when his profile and recognition peaked around the time of Punk Authority and Man With Potential he refused to milk it and keep churning out the same music. The music itself is a visceral and primal noise, chaotic but still under his complete control. It focuses on texture, but still has rhythm and groove. The fact that all of this is done as unplanned improvisations makes it even more special to me. As a live act he changed how I considered electronic music could be performed (watch his Boiler Room performance from 2013). He manages to be the type of person that simultaneously cares a lot whilst appearing to not give a fuck, which is very rare.
