Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

As I was saying before I associate music with memory so much – listening to something wears a groove in you, it feels like it becomes a part of you. This band are some of my closest friends in Philadelphia and Meg is actually playing the drums in this record. I would see them play a lot in Philly and they were a big part of my life so I wanted to include them on the list.

So essentially the only people you haven’t met on this list are Robert Smith and Diana Ross.

True, and Marvin Gaye and Washington Phillips, he’s long gone. Meeting people isn’t so important, it’s more the connection that you have, sometimes the music people make is such a part of them and meeting and having conversations feels really natural and cool. The music that’s special to me is made by good friends and like-minded people. I feel very lucky. I learned a lot by listening to what other people are making.
