Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Devendra BanhartCripple Crow

Released in 2005 this album could happily sit beside Crosby, Stills and Nash’s eponymous album in a kind of time-slide and this is exactly why I love it so. The title track has it all: tingly fingerpicked guitar, Devendra’s dreamy vocal, rich strings and space – huge amounts of space. This last aspect is, I think, partly attributable to the producer, Noah Georgeson (who also produced the Joanna Newsom album), who seems to capture a sense of atmosphere in everything he touches. I was lucky enough to have him mix my new album, theyesandeye – one of the best decisions I ever made.
