10. Mount Kimble
Mount Kimbie – I was definitely try to sound like them with that field recording type thing that they would do.
When it came out was massive. It had a real impact on loads of people.
I just got the anniversary vinyl came in last week.
What anniversary?
Ten I think?
No! I feel old.
Yeah I absolutely love that record. It was something I’d never heard before that post dubstep thing. It kind of got me into field recording sections of songs, and then also the live performance aspect as well, watching a lot of their videos – whatever MPC they were using, and also using that live instrument like the guitar. I can’t play guitar, but it was cool to see that and how that worked.
Did that prompt you to start doing your own field recordings?
Yeah, stuff like taps running and cars going by – very basic stuff. But it definitely influenced me to start doing that and also got me thinking about how I wanted to present a live show – different to theirs but it got me thinking. It’s hard to find live videos with close ups but Mount Kimbie they have quite a few, which is really cool. I saw them for their last album, they’ve adapted to have more live instrumentation now. People like Bonobo too, where it’s really cool to see big grand stage.
