Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

6. AzymuthLight As A Feather

I’m super attracted to the fact that, by Azymuth being Brazilian and trying to recreate that psychedelic prog thing that was happening in Europe, they did something completely different. The way they played was different, the instruments they used were different, and they sounded really cool and way more psychedelic than any of the bands at the time. Like I was saying, with us being naïve about mixing punk and metal, they did the same by trying to emulate the European sounds of progressive rock with psychedelic and they did their own thing. And now when you listen to their records from the 70s, it’s like you could hear it on NTS Radio and think this is the next hip band. But then again the drumming on this, it’s out of control because it’s this guy who does a lot Brazilian samba, which is like the typical mix of African and Brazilian rhythms. He does that mixed with with prog rock, which is mind-blowing.
