Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

4. ESGKeep On Moving

I love them! Actually I finally saw them a couple of years ago and they had their daughters playing in the band. It was so nice to listen to them again, and now their daughters play in the band. It’s so cool! I discovered them in 99 Records in New York. I was there with Malaria! and suddenly there was this band from New York called ESG and I thought, ‘oh wow’, because it was so different to us. We were all like super stylish, and they were so pure, doing their music. I was jealous, I thought ‘oh, they are so cool’.  People talked about them at the time but I never saw them; they never played in Berlin for some reason. And actually, then, a couple of years ago, I got to interview them. We had an artist’s talk after the show for Groove magazine. So I got to know them a little bit and they’re really nice people. Wonderful. They have such excellent grooves and such super, nice, simple tunes. They’re classic, I think.
