5. The Ballad Of Narayama
I watched this when I was recovering [from a brain haemorrhage in 2019], and it was also during the confinement, when people thought there was a virus in the street that could kill them all. We were all, the whole planet, in a state of fear that lasted for a months, about this unknown enemy. What I liked when I saw that movie is that it was so colourful, so artistic. The beauty of The Ballad Of Narayama is that it makes you think that this is more than just narrative, it’s art. I’m still in shock that Kinoshita is not as well known as Kenji Mizoguchi or Akira Kurosawa. I was watching other movies by him during that time, and they are incredibly touching, incredibly creative. And cruel, as well.
