Crouch says [this] was "not jazz". One of the greatest records in the universe.

The sense of time, the restraint, the repeated riff with lots of space, is a ground for me. The way John Lee Hooker is, and of course, Miles wanted what Hendrix had, so the influence took him to another place. So many musical directions in one life is a rarity unto itself.
