Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. Various ArtistsTighten Up Volume 1

This instantly brings back memories of my home at that time, with Jaye Landis’ ‘Angel Of The Morning’ booming out. My dad had a 50 Watt amplifier with the record player which at that time was super-powerful in comparison to what my friends had. When friends would come over with guitars we’d always plug into that amp, all of us! And hearing this album coming out of that amp was amazing. Thing is, with all of the songs on the Tighten Up compilations, in Jamaica those songs would have a lifespan of about a week, the sheer frequency of singles over there was incredible. These compilations were a great way to keep that music around.
