Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. Various ArtistsWilliam Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet: Music From The Motion Picture

I discovered the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack album as a result of being a big fan of the film when it first came out. For my 13th birthday party, a group of us went to see that movie and I was so into it. I went and saw it three times in theatres, and then just felt absolutely ravenous for the soundtrack album when I got my hands on it. I didn’t listen to anything else for a very long time. I definitely discovered quite a few artists via this album. This was how I discovered Radiohead. I was most drawn to their song on there ‘Talk Show Host’. It’s so moody and good. Also Garbage. ‘#1 Crush’ is such a great song. Those are my two favourites. They’re bands that I found out about through that soundtrack, and then have continued to love. I think that was such a good era of soundtracks. The Crow, from a few years earlier, is another really good example.
