Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

3. Mighty SparrowWanted Dead Or Alive

A comparatively new one for me, that. I discovered it on Spotify. I like Mighty Sparrow; this is one of his later records. It’s not really representative of his music, but there are lots of things on here that sum up the best things about him. Lots of songs about loving women and that, so there are some of the traditional elements of his music there. And then there are lots of weird keyboards on it. And really long weird songs about politics and stuff like that. Sometimes you aren’t quite aware whether he’s being ironic. Songs about the fall of presidents and scandals over an alright sounding backing track! [I remind Scott of Sea Power’s potent, vodka punch-fuelled, ping-pong and calypso backstage sessions.] That ping pong and calypso time [round 2012] was beautiful. It played a big part in what was going on behind the scenes with us back then.
